1984 Z/28 Camaro

Purchased on June 30, 2003. Located in Tempe, Arizona where it had been unlicensed since 2001. After two hours of tampering with the car it was started and driven 25 miles home. It became evident during that drive that the alternator was not functioning, that although the car ran well, it would not idle, fifth gear was gone entirely, the transmission was very difficult to shift into any gear and the clutch would barely disengage and chattered. On the positive side, the body was pretty tight, the car handled well and it does have polished IROC wheels. The transmission was pulled apart and the driven 5th gear was found just hanging on the output shaft. The transmission was disassembled, cleaned and put back together. Less than $20 was invested in parts for the T-5 transmission. The jury is still out on the need for a complete tranny rebuild as the engine was blowing by so badly that we pulled and disassembled it. We found that the compression rings were all broken and the bearings were starting to show serious signs of wear, other than that, not too much was found wrong. The heater hose was cut and routed back to the block from the water pump, so I suspect the heater core is probably bad.......

The engine was rebuilt .030 over and ran strong, but was very difficult to get through the emmissions process. The T-5 transmission functioned perfectly. Unfortunately this project was terminated by a traffic accident (no fault of our own) the second day it was roadworthy......
