Starting Point

If your housings are not damaged, but have lost
their lusture, you can refinish them with a little effort. |

Turn housing over and remove six sheet metal bolts or screws
that hold the front of the housing to the back.
|

The halves should separate easily, and if you are careful you
can probably save the gasket.
|
Disassemble Lens

Pull Lenses apart and at this time you can clean all the parts
and determine if you need to replaces gaskets and lenses.
|
Mask Housing

After the housing is clean and completely dry use 3-M Safe-Release
Painter's Tape as it will be easy to remove. An exacto knife
is helpful for triming corners.
|
Complete Masking

You should mask both the inner raised edge and
the outer smooth surface, leaving only the textured area to paint.
Make sure it is clean. |
Painting

Use a high quality aerosol paint making sure to use a Satin
Black finish. Several light coats should be applied about ½
hour apart.
|
Remove Tape

After drying thoroughly overnight, remove the
masking tape. Any bleeding under the edges of the tape can be
cleaned up with the exacto knife. |
Polish Housing

Polish the unpainted portion of the housing with a metal polish
such as Mother's. Be careful not to rub your new paint off.
|
Reassemble

Reassemble the housing replacing any parts that you need to.
The finished unit looks good as new.
|
Finished

Both units are done and the savings adds up to about $175 over
the purchase of reproduction units.
