The "Guldstrand" Mod &
Tubular Control Arms....
|
Raise the front of the car and place on a good pair of jackstands,
at this point the wheel can be removed.

|
Now remove the dust cover, cotter key, and castle nut.
The rotor can now be removed.

|
Remove the three bolts holding the backing plate and caliper mounting
bracket. Put small parts in a safe place.

|
There is a lot of energy stored in the coil spring. Place floor jack
under lower control arm at the ball joint area.

|
Loosen the castle nut on the lower ball joint and tap spindle until
lower ball joint pops loose. At this point the energy in the spring
actually lifted the car off the jack stand. BE CAREFUL, this can be
very dangerous.

|
In this photo the control arm has been lowered until spring could be
removed and the upper control arm is removed by unbolting the shaft.
The spindle is removed from the upper control arm at the upper ball
joint.

|
The subframe is now ready for modification.
|
The first step is to knock out the control arm mounting bolts.
|
Cut out template attained from Guldstrand Motorsports. Cut out the
upper (existing) holes only as you'll need center points to mark the
new location points on the frame.

|
Place template on the outboard side of the frame mount. Replace the
mounting bolts to hold the template in place. Use a punch to mark the
location of the new mounting points.

|
After drilling two 7/16" holes replace the upper control arm using
the new mounting points. Test the control arm for interference with
the frame.

|
Some grinding will be necessary to give the control arm clearance required
for it's full range of motion. Don't forget to allow for alignment shims.

|
New Tubular Lower Control Arms from Speed Tech Performance are bolted
on in place of the stock units. No modifications are required.

|
Tubular Upper Control Arms from Speed Tech Performance are installed.
No additional modifications were required to the subframe.

|
The urethane coil spring pad is removed from the lower control arm
and the QA1 Coilovers installed.

|
Reattach the spindle. Don't forget the castle nuts and make sure to
secure with castle nuts. Torque all nuts to spec.
